Science Express Climate Action Special (SECAS) II 

The flag-off event of the ninth phase of Science Express as 'Science Express Climate Action Special (SECAS) II' was organized at Delhi Safdarjung station. It was marked by the presence of Shri Suresh Prabhakar Prabhu, Hon’ble Minister of Railways (through video conferencing), Dr. Harsh Vardhan, Hon’ble Minister of Science & Technology and Earth Sciences and Shri Anil Madhav Dave, Hon’ble Minister of State (I/C) for Environment, Forest and Climate Change (MoEFCC), Govt. of India. Ashutosh Sharma, Secretary, Dept. of Science and Technology (DST), Shri Ajay Narayan Jha, Secretary, MoEFCC, Dr. Amita Prasad, Addl. Secretary, MoEFCC, along with and officials from the Indian Railways, DST, MoEFCC, Dept. of Biotechnology, Wildlife Institute of India (WII) and Vikram A Sarabhai Community Science Centre (VASCSC) also graced the occasion.

The event started with a theme song of SECAS, which was beautifully orchestrated and sung by a group of students from the National Institute for the Visually Handicapped, Dehradun. The Hon’ble Ministers and the dignitaries on the dais made short speeches highlighting the role of SECAS in spreading awareness about Climate Change among the people especially the students across the country. They also released the SECAS II Brochure, Poster and take-away material. Later, they formally inaugurated the exhibition by cutting the ribbon and also visited the coaches of SECAS II and interacted with the Science Communicators aboard SECAS.


Shortly after this, SECAS II was flagged-off by the Hon’ble Ministers and the dignitaries amidst guests and glittering media. The entire flag-off ceremony was covered by a large number of representatives from print, audio-visual and e-media.


In the current phase, from 17 February to 08 September 2017, SECAS II will travel over 19,000 km across the country. It is scheduled to halt at 68 locations in 20 states.
