Centre makes Rajaji Park a tiger reserve

 The Ministry of environment  and forest has granted Uttarakhand's famous Rajaji National Park the status of a tiger reserve.

The proposal for elevating its status was sent to the ministry some weeks ago making  it the forty second tiger reserve in the country.

Principal conservator of forests (Wildlife) S.S. Sharma pointed out that the Rajaji Tiger Reserve will cover an area of 1150 square km including Shyampur of Haridwar forest division besides the Kotdwar and Lansdowne forest division.

Uttarakhand is one of the few states that can now boast of having two tiger  reserve  including the Corbett National Park said Mr. Sharma.
