CBI to inquire into rhino killing in Kaziranga

State Forest Minister Rockybul Hussain on Sunday announced  that the Central Bureau of Investigation  (CBI) would inquire into the  Kaziranga National Park  (KNP).

 Addressing a press conference, Hussain said, Union Home Ministry has informed the State government that a CBI inquiry into the killing of rhinos in the Kaziranga National Park would be conducted.  The CBI will inquire into the issue on the basis of the cases related to rhino killings lodged at police stations.

"On February 5, 2008, I personally wrote to the Chief Minister, seeking a CBI inquiry into the killing of rhinos in the Kaziranga National Park. On September 27, 2012, I again wrote to the Chief  Minister forwarded my letter to the State Chief Secretary who, in turn, wrote to the Union Home Ministry. Seeking a CBI inquiry into the killing of rhinos in the Kaziranga National Park, Hussain said.

 On the  issue of protection  of wild animals, especially rhinos in the KNP through improved surveillance. Hussain said, Test flight of unmanned aircrafts will be started from Monday in the Kaziranga National Park under the supervision  of NTCA.  With the use of unmanned aircrafts. we will be able to keep our surveillance  inside and outside the national  park in much proper way."

 The Forest Minister also informed that an awareness camp for the protection  of wildlife would be held in the KNP on April 20. in which CBI's Joint Director from Mumbai would take part.
