NTCA team to visit the state

The Political ad Business Daily,  Bhubaneswar, 8th June, 2013
A three- member team of the National Tiger Conservation Authority (NTCA) is scheduled to visit the state in a week a capture the escaped tiger and inquire into the circumstances under which the wild tiger managed to escape from the Nandan Kanan Zoo.

A Royal Bengal Tiger had walked into the white tiger safari of the zoo on April 29. The tiger, however, escaped from the zoo on June 1 by scaling the 18 feet wire fencing of the enclosure.

"A team of NTCA will arrive here to find out the tiger and under what circumstances the tiger escaped from the zoo. The tiger escaped from the zoo. The team will have two scientists of Wildlife Institute of India and NTCA official. They will suggest whether the tiger would be kept here and shifted out of the state or into jungle,” said JD Sharma, PCCF (wildlife).

Sharma had gone to New Delhi to discuss the issue with the NTCA authorities. He also claimed that the tiger is now seen moving inside the sanctuary close to the Nandan Kanan Zoo.

Forest and Environment minister Bijoyshree Routray said, the team would visit other tiger sanctuaries including Satkosia.

The team, he said, would decide whether to recapture the big cat and release it to any sanctuary or to keep it in captivity inside the zoo.

Meanwhile, Routray informed that the state government has decided to set up a tiger foundation centre inside the Satkosia sanctuary.

Presiding over a meeting on this, he said, the foundation centre would have an interpretation centre, photo exhibition of tigers and would have all information to educate people about tigers.

The meeting also decided to shift five villages located inside the Satkosia sanctuary and relocate them somewhere outside the sanctuary area.
