Two arrested in Panvel for attempt to sell leopard skin

Forest officials in Panvel arrested two men for trying to sell leopard skin for nearly Rs. 5 Lakh. The accused, Sudhakar Meshram (26) and Rajendra Ahire (47), both residents of state forest department till May 6.

The range forest officer (RFO) Anil Parab told TOI that the duo was caught with the skin of an adult leopard near Aayush Resort in Panvel on Thursday. They had reportedly procured the skin, over 8 feet long, from a place in Ratnagiri district.

"We received a tip-off that the accused were trying to sell this skin for around Rs. 5 Lakh. Selling of leopard skin is prohibited," said Parab. While Meshram is unemployed, Ahire works as a clerk in a college near Panvel. Further probe is on to find out if more people are involved in this racket.
