Poachers kill tiger near Bandhavgarh

Poachers killed an adult tiger by electrocution close to Bandhavgarh National Park in Umaria district of Madhya Pradesh late last night, forest officials said today. Five suspected persons have been detained in connection with the incident.

The forest staff recovered the body of the tiger, devoid of its entire skin, from near a nullah at the Ghunghuti range of Umaria division.

According to Shahdol forest Circle Chief Conservator Mr Y. Satyam, the forest personnel succeeded in recovering the big cat`s hide too.

‘Investigations are on in the matter and the suspected poachers are being interrogated," Mr Satyam said. According to sources, the suspected poachers have confessed to their crime, but officials declined to disclose the outcome of the interrogations.
