BSF celebrates World Environment Day

World Environment Day is observed on June 5 every year to promote awareness on the importance of preserving the biodiversity, the need to identify problems related to the environment and ways to take corrective action.

In order to meet the challenges posed due to global warming and to bring environment awareness among the BSF troops, a special programme was organized by the BSF at Headquarters BSF Mizoram and Cachar Frontier, Masimpur, Silchar and also by all Sector Headquarters and Units under this Frontier on Wednesday.

World Environment Day was celebrated by the BSF troops by organizing various programmes including plantation of various types of saplings like – fruit bearing trees and flower trees, cleanliness of BSF campus including surrounding areas of family quarters, cleanliness of lakes situated inside the BSF campus. Lectures on environment awareness of the BSF troops, lecture on hygiene and sanitation of BSF family and children. At BSF campus Masimpur, the tree plantation programme was organized.

DK Tripathi, DIG, was the chief guest on the occasion. He stressed on the importance of the environment day and said that plantation of trees help in maintaining the ecological balance of the earth. He further said that trees should be treated like a child and due care should be taken for their growth and development and this will surely benefit the coming generation and environment in general. The programme was aimed to inculcate the importance of protecting “forest reserve” in the mind of all BSF personnel, their families and children so that they could contribute more towards the prevention of illegal de–forestation in the surrounding areas.

He appreciated the work done by the BSF troops of the Frontier and also the BSF Welfare Wives Association (BWWA). DK Tripathi also congratulated all the officers, SOs and ORs of the HQ, SHQ Silchar and 136 Bn BSF for doing an excellent job and making the environmental day a grand success.

UC Hazarika, SHQ BSF Silchar, intimated that lot of work has been done in the campus to make a green. Around 30,000 saplings of various ornamental and fruit trees were planted. On the occasion of environmental day SC Budakoti, DIG BSF Frontier HQ M&C laid emphasis on the awareness regarding environment should be taught to the children by the parents. Whereever possible people should grow trees, plants and if possible a small kitchen garden in their compound.

Neena Hazarika, vice president of BWWA, SHQ BSF Silchar graced the occasion by planting a sapling. She said that all ladies of BWWA should at least plant one sapling on this occasion. She said that this year BWWA planted more trees than last year. She also said that trees helps in saving the environment. She appreciated the role played by the BWWA members and congratulated each member of BSF family.
