North Corpn: Transparency in waste management soon

The Statesman, New Delhi, 5th June, 2013

The North Corporation is all set to introduce a new software to bring about transparency in waste management and garbage collection systems through which pictures of the municipal waste collection centres (dhalaos) would be uploaded on real time basis and will be accessible to everybody.

The corporation has signed an agreement with the Ramky Group which has assured robust garbage management and collection systems.   As per the corporation's agreement with the concessionaire, the latter will provide global positioning system (GPS) enabled mobiles to sanitary inspectors and supervisors who will click pictures of the centres once a day and they will automatically be uploaded. These pictures would be available on the website of the corporation through a link for a period of six months.  "We have already started trial of the system and it will be launched after incorporating suggestions in the software," said Vijay Prakash Pandey, chairman of the Environment Management Services Committee, North DMC.

Each centre has been given a unique code to avoid any duplication of  pictures. "The mobiles have been synchronised in such a way that whenever a picture of a garbage centre is clicked it will bear the code of the centre along with date and time to avoid duplication," said Mr Pandey. The movement of garbage collection vehicles can also be monitored online. "The project will be launched on a pilot basis in Rohini and Civil Lines area where we have a private concessionaire for garbage collection. It would be later replicated in the entire North DMC area," said Mr Pawan Sharma,  additional commissioner.
