People's Science Society to celebrate World Environment Day

People’s Science Society, a nascent NGO of this town, has decided to observe ‘World Environment Day’ in its own unique way in order to create awareness among people about the urgent need of protecting nature and maintaining ecological balance. Krishanu Bhattacharjee, a member of PSS, said their theme would be ‘Think, Eat, Save’ as declared by the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) as its global theme. Various programmes have been chalked out in coordination with other organizations. Their very mission is to make ‘Clean, Green and Fit Society’ for better and healthier living for all human beings.

Anti tobacco and cancer awareness programme and discussion on it, Bhattacharjee added to say, would be held in the premises of Cachar Cancer Hospital. Another highlight of the day would be a presentation on ‘Tree Host Mission Project’ in cooperation with Sreepalli Development Committee and its objective would be to motivate people for plantations of trees of varied species and create around a greener and cleaner environment.

Another discussion of significance on the agenda would be on the subject of ‘Solid Waste Management in the Town: Challenges and Solution’. The day long programme would conclude with a film show on the theme of the World Environment Day by Beekshan Cine Commune. Arunodoy Sangha, the well known NGO, working in diverse fields for the welfare of common masses, has taken up tree plantation at specific locations in order to make people aware of the significance of the day and give a thought to the preservation and protection of flora and fauna.
