Arrangements made for World Environment Day

All arrangements are being made to observe the main function of World Environment Day (WED) at Indian Oil Corporation Limited (IOCL) on June 5.

World Environment Day is celebrated world wide on June 5 every year. IOCL (AOD) also organizes several activities in and around Digboi to spread awareness regarding the importance of protecting the environment for future generations. One of the major events organized on the occasion was the mini marathon which was held on June 2. The mini marathon is of 13.5 km which is approximately half the distance of the full marathon. The marathon which started from the Historic Jubilee Ground (Welfare Centre) of Digboi, proceeded towards Bihutoli initially and after passing through Muliabari AOD township area, Hospital Tillah,   Administration Complex and part of the Digboi Refinery, Shillong Road, some portion of the Digboi Golf Links and on the return stretch pass by the AOD Market Area was culminated later at the starting point. The mini marathon was held in two categories– for students of 14 years of age and above and for general category. All total 320 participants including 230 of students participated in the mini marathon. The winner in the general category completing the distance in 40 minutes, was Mansid Oreya of Kherjan who won this race for third consecutive year. The winner in the students category covering the distance in 43 minutes was master Naren Bhengraj of Sowmar Vidyapith HSS. The prizes, first 10 positions in the general category and first 20 positions in the students category, were given away by Executive Director AOD, Barun Barpujari, General Manager (TS)  Kaushik Bora, General Manager (HSE), HL Arya AOD and DGM (HSE) AOD  Jibanta Borgohain. Seeing the overwhelming response in the students category, it was announced during the closing function of the mini marathon, that prizes up to the 100th position would be awarded in the students category at the open function scheduled to be held on June 5 on the World Environment Day.

On the Spot Art Competition, organized in the Golden Jubilee Complex for students up to Class X in four groups – Group A up to Class I, Group B for Class II to IV, Group C for Class V to VII and Group D for Class VIII to X. Each group had a different topic. All total 350 students participated with great enthusiasm. Prajakta Doley of Delhi Public School (DPS) bagged the prize for Group A while Arya Kashikar of DPS and Mridusmita Dey of Little Star School and R Sahil of DPS clinched the prizes in Group B, Group C and Group D respectively. All the prizes would be given away to the respective winners on the public function of WED.  

The Art Competition was followed by the Open Prize Money Quiz Competition in the Golden Jubilee Complex. The quiz saw participation of around 120 from Guwahati, Dibrugarh, Naharkatiya, Tinsukia and all around Digboi. The winners were Wonkyo Wiengken (Naharkatiya) and Vinay Upadhyay of Assam Medical College and Hospital, Dibrugarh. The Quiz Master was Shakya Shamik Kar Khound. The prizes were given away by General Manager (HSE) AOD, HL Arya.
