Zoo authority signs MoU with Nepal

The Hindu, New Delhi, 28th May, 2013

To ensure the well-being of animals in captivity and to keep its staff in tune with the latest in the field of animal management, the Central Zoo Authority (CZA) – which is in-charge of complementing the national effort in wildlife conservation – on Monday signed a memorandum of understanding with the National Trust for Nature Conservation, Nepal.

Scientific exchange

“As per this three-year agreement with Nepal, we will work towards capacity building, exchanging scientific information on in-captivity breeding/conservation, exchange of animals and staff exchange programme, said a senior CZA official.

He said the Authority has similar tie-ups with Singapore and Germany and is in the process of entering into collaboration with the National Primate Centre, California.

“The entire exercise is aimed at bringing in fresh blood into animals breeding in captivity and ensuring that our staff is in tune with the latest developments in the field of animal conservation,” the official said.
