HC nod for govt plan to cover drains (April)

The Delhi high court on Thursday upheld the city government's policy on covering of drains. Justice Manmohan also made it clear that agencies will follow the policy framed by the government and no other tribunal will interfere. The National Green Tribunal had recently ordered all agencies not to cover the storm-water drains.

HC's direction came while hearing a petition filed by a IFS Society from Mayur Vihar. The society had approached high court seeking directions to agencies to cover the drain near the society and challenging commercial activity within Mayur Vihar Metro station. After Delhi government's additional standing counsel Rajiv Nanda placed on record the government's policy on covering drains, the court approved it.
