NGT order to forest department on tree felling

Times of India, Delhi, 8th July 2014

The National Green Tribunal has directed the forest department to dispose of an application seeking permission to cut trees for the Mehrauli-Mahipalpur road-widening project within two weeks. Delay in disposing of the matter has reportedly inconvenienced residents as several patches have been dug up. Sonya Ghosh, a resident, filed an application against the project as it meant loss of hundreds of trees. A Forest Research Institute report to NGT says 267 trees have been cut, removed or uprooted and another 154 have been damaged on the stretch.
