Govt to ask MoEF to withdraw suspension of ECs

The Times of India, Panji, 16th January, 2015

PANAJI: Chief minister Laxmikant Parsekar on Friday said that his government will write to the ministry of environment and forests (MoEF) to withdraw the suspension on environmental clearances for Goan mines to expedite resumption of mining in Goa.
The Goa government on Thursday revoked the ban on mining which was imposed in September 2012. Asked what would be the next step, Parsekar said his government would now write to the MoEF to withdraw its suspension of the environmental NOCs for mines.
He said that during the mining ban, the government did its best to support all the mining-affected people including the truck owners, the barge owners and others. But recently, the government was being approached by lot of other people like truck drivers and even a barber claiming to have been affected by the mining ban and demanding compensation.
Clarifying that the government has renewed mining leases for 20 years with effect from 2007, Parsekar said the government has done whatever is possible under the Minerals and Mines Act.
