Fall in tiger population in Telangana, A.P.

Even as the country’s total tiger population increased between 2010 and 2014, Andhra Pradesh and Telangana reported a decline, the latest tiger census shows.

The census report which was released on Tuesday shows that undivided Andhra Pradesh had 68 tigers in 2014 against 72 in 2010 when the census exercise was carried out.

The report counted 65 in Nagarjunsagar-Srisailam Tiger Reserve (NSTR) and three in Kawal buffer area. The decline has been attributed to loss of tiger habitat.
