Exploiting nature, not part of our culture: Modi

The Hindu, New Delhi, 06 April, 2015

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday inaugurated the two-day conference of State Environment and Forest Ministers at Vigyan Bhavan in New Delhi.

Speaking at the conference, Mr. Modi emphasised that we have no right to exploit nature. "This is not a part of our culture," he said, adding, "we have grown up in those traditions where Nature is worshipped and where conserving nature is very important."

He also encouraged teaching environmental education and conservation in schools.

Asserting that development and environment conservation can go hand-in-hand, Mr. Modi narrated various initiatives taken by the Centre in the fields of solar and wind energy.

The Prime Minister will also launch Air Quality Index on Monday.
