leopard skin seized, six arrested

Six persons were arrested and 11 foot long leopard skin recovered from them at Jalpaiguri in north Bengal.

" After examining  the skin we found that it has bullet marks at least at four places.

Those arrested have claimed that the skin was sourced from Meghalaya , Sanjay Dutta, range officer of Belokoba Range of Baikunthpur Forest Division told The Hindu.

The arrest were made with the help of Jalpaiguri district police, forest officials said. The accused were produced before a court on Tuesday which remanded them in police custody.

Those arrested includes four from Assam. Forest guards said that the leopard skin was being taken to across the border to Nepal.

The Wildlife Crime Control Bureau of the Assam has been alerted.
