Poachers Kill collared tiger, extract fat oil

The Times of India, Bhopal, 20th September, 2015

Poachers killed a radio-collared tiger of the Satpura Tiger Reserve in Madhya Pradesh two months ago and extracted oil from fat for using it as a remedy for joint aches and eractile dys-function, said sources.

'In a joint operation, officers of the reserve and the special task force (STF) of the state forest department  confiscated two bottles of suspected tiger fat oil two days ago from the poaching network linked to an inter-national gang. Oil was seized from Srivas of Sakhai Village in Hoshangabad  and Yunus from Itarsi. Both were arrested along with 10 other poachers during a month-long operation.

"We have sent samples for laboratory  examination. If this oil was extracted from tiger fat, it would be a new trend in poaching," said R.P.Singh, Director of the reserve.

Inputs on killing of a tiger surfaced during interrogation  of a gang of Pangolin poachers arrested by STF officials from Sakai this week.
