NGOs and Environment

Realizing, the importance of NGO’s in socio-economic, cultural and environmental education the Ministry of Environment, Forests & Climate Change has initiated a number of programs and agendas designed to support and sponsor NGO activities. Overtime a need for greater understanding and co-operation was increasingly felt both by the Ministry as well as by the NGO’s.

In 1984, ENVIS Centre 07 of the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change, Government of India, was established in WWF-India. It has been assigned the responsibility for serving as the focal point for information on Environmental NGOs. The Centre has been compiling this information over the past 30 years and has been recognized as a reliable and responsive source of environment related information.

Collection of this information is addressing the need for networking on current environmental activities, making future collaboration and exchange between organizations more possible.
