Tiger sighting raises concern in Bhamini and Seetampeta mandals in Andhra Pradesh

The Times of India, New Delhi, 19th August, 2023

VISAKHAPATNAM: Tension is prevailing in Bhamini and Seetampeta mandals, located on the borders of the Parvathipuram and Srikakulam districts in Andhra Pradesh, due to reports of a tiger sighting over the past few days.

Forest department officials have identified pugmarks believed to be from a tiger and have issued alerts to the public. Fortunately, no incidents have been reported thus far.

It is worth mentioning that the pug marks of a tiger were initially spotted a couple of days ago on the borders of Bhamini mandal in the Parvathipuram Manyam district. Presently, the tiger has reached Labba Road in the Kotturu mandal of Srikakulam, having traveled from the Eetamanuguda panchayat in Seetampeta mandal of the Manyam district.

The forest department staff identified the pugmarks of the tiger and promptly informed district officials."We have noticed the pug marks of the tiger and have alerted the revenue and police forces as well. It is possible that this tiger is one of those that have caused trouble in the Visakhapatnam and Vizianagaram districts. We have cautioned residents of approximately 62 villages in the surrounding areas against venturing out during late evenings, nights, and early morning hours," said GAP Prasanna, the district forest officer (DFO) of Parvathipuram.
